I am Obamah. Are you Khayaal Jee?"

Embrace Islam, Be Secure (Aslim, Taslam)

Rang-o-Noor (BY SA'DI)

(Shumara: 515)
May Allah forgive us! Today's column comprises fancies of Mr. Khayaal Jee.
My Shop: Getting fed up with unemployment, I thought of searching out a means of livelihood. You know  that I, named Khayaal Jee am neither a politician nor a scientist nor an  engineer. How should I earn and what to eat now? At last, I went to my teacher Darvesh Jee who said, "Why do you worry? Open a shop for selling spells and charms, you will grow rich within days. Listen! The present day rulers are awed and terrified of extremism, violence and Jihaad. Become a sagacious charmer and doctor and then keep counting currency notes all the time like the father of Malala Yousaf Zai." Suggestion of Darvesh Jee was reasonable which appealed me directly. I said, "O guide, give me loan so that I may rent a shop." He gave me three rupees, one for rent, one to pay wages to get the board written and one to buy a plane. He said, "I see, you will have to go on long journeys." Filling Rs. 03/- in brief case, I came out the Darvesh's hut, rented a shop in  the market, got a beautiful sign board written as, "Extirpation of extremism, sure shot treatment for violence and noval method of avoiding Mujaahideen. Hazrat Hakeem, Doctor, Competent Practitioner, Sagacious and Think Tank Khayaal Jee, phone no."
Chain of Phone Calls:      After taking tea on debt at Khan Jee's hotel when I was about to leave, Khan Jee demanded its price. I bragged smiling, "Don't worry, I shall pay back all the debts." No sooner did I  sit at the shop, than there were phone calls one after the other. I was worried whose phone call I should attend first. Then I decided to attend the call of a black first. Pressing the button, when I held the phone to my ear, there came a half-breathed voice,  I said, "Yes, speak." He said, "We are ruined. We have spent trillions of dollars but neither have Mujaahideen been wiped nor has Jihaad ended. We have seated our purchased slaves in every Muslim country but Jihaad is still prevailing. Now our own security is in danger. Give us a suggestion and a charm. There is Jihaad and Mujaahideen from Afghanistan, Iraq and Africa everywhere." Saying this, Obamah began to sob and sigh. I said, "Obamah, do you know the fee charges?" He said, "Tell me. I shall not drink hump and charas and pay it off." I said, "It is Rs.5:50." Obamah began to weep, "Give me some concession. Our country is facing fiscal problems. Rebellions are rising. Russia is again arising. China and Northern Korea are also not to be subdued and these Mujaahideen!  Alas! They are not decreasing in number despite spending billions of dollars and daily bombing. We don't know, whether they are growing from the earth or  falling from the sky." The bargain was settled at Rs. 05 after long haggling and I promised Obamah to visit America saying,  "I am visiting Washington soon and will give you suggestions." The phone hung off with repetition of thank you again and again. The phone bell rang again. It seemed from the sound of bell that the phone was from a neighbouring land. When I attend it, drum like voice came. I was about to wonder that a faminish voice sounded, "I am Narandira Modi from your neighborhood." I said, "How are you Modi?" He said, "I am just coming back from the tailor fetching the suit which he has stitched on the Independence Day; a torty blue dress. He wrote on the front and the back of the trousers "Modi, Modi." The immodest fellow!"
I have sold that suit but now I have ordered for eight suits stressing the tailor on to stitch strings of bells with it. Then I went to photographer for a few new photographs. I am awfully busy now as I am to visit several countries and am to get my snaps drawn in new clothes everywhere. I embrace every Prime Minister and get my demands accepted. Getting fed up with this nonsense, I said, "Let it go. Why have you phoned me?" He said, "Extremism is increasing in our country. The Mujaahideen are again gathering in Kashmir. There seems great danger from Afghanistan also. I am greatly afraid with increasing heart beat. Americans tell us that India is in great danger. Give us a suggestion, a charm or a spell." I promised to visit India on the payment of Rs. 04/- What is this. The pone bell is ringing again. It was Russian president Putin who cried, "There are Mujaahideen from Cyberia to Tajikistan and from Qafqaaz to Aamu everywhere. Fourteen thousand individuals have escaped from Russia and middle Asia to Syria and Iraq and have become Mujaahideen. The head of the secret agency is also included in it. We have already been defeated in Afghanistan." Saying this, Putin began to weep and said, "When I see pictures of those Mujaahideen, stooling begin to eject. These days, we are bombing at Syria but our own land is going out of control.  What is this jihad? Our security is in danger. Tell and suggest us something." I promised to visit Moscow at the payment of Rs. 3.50.
I was unemployed till yesterday but today I have orders from three countries and I am counting currency notes in my thoughts like Zia-ud-Din Yousaf Zai.
Preparation For Journey:   The phone bell was ringing again. Now it was Iran on line very deceitfully. I rejected the call. Then it was England. I rejected that call also. How many calls can a single individual attend? I decided to answer the first three orders then to attend to other calls. I bought a new plane from the nearing stall, inflated it at the tyre shop of Uncle Rahim Bux and got ready to visit America, India and Russia but the phone bell was ever ringing. There was one call again and again. I received it in anger half-heartedly. It was Binia Min Natin Yahoo. He said, "O Khayaal Jee! O Khayaal Jee!" Then he begin to sob and sigh like a cat in the darkness of night. I consoled him with great difficulty. He said, "These Palestinian Mujaahideen! These people of the Himass!" Then he began to weep bitterly, "We have used every kind of weaponry but they fight us with big and small knives. There is awe, fear and worry everywhere. If we had used so much weaponry against any other  nation as we have used against the Palestinians, it would have been extirpated completely but they are multiplying in number. There is ever new war strategy and slogans of Al-Jhaad, Al-Jihaad. Alas! The Jews have been killed and destroyed. We have been benefitting neither from intimaces with America nor Arabs' negligence of the Palestinians. We were apprehensive of Muhammad Morsi in Egypt. We got him dethroned and brought Sici but he proved a bottle of urine for us. O security! O Security! O security! Give us a suggestion please." I said, "Natin, I am awfully busy now. I am now to go to America and then visit India and Russia. Call me at some other moment." Hearing this, he began to weep even more bitterly, "O Khayaal Jee! I beseech you. The major danger now is that of Intifaazah. Spare a few moments for us also." Taking pity on him, I promised to visit Tel Aviv also at the payment of Rs. 2.50/- only.
The Plane had a Hair's Breath Escape From Accident: Saying good-bye to the family and friends, I boarded the plane checking it brakes, peddles and handle, I drove to it  towards Russaia with the intention to go to Moscow, then India, Israel and the America in the end because the news of shortage of food in America was in the air. Taking the drum, the Indian Prime Minister went to attend marriages in the neighbouring countries. The construction of run way for my plane in Israel was going on. Hence, I decided to go to Russia first of all. Covering a short distance, a big plan panting and staggering began to come near mine. I saw through telescope big cauldrons lying at the roof of that plane. It could not fly properly due to their weight. Looking from the distance, I witnessed names of dishes as quormah, fried rice, biriaani and fried fish etc. Staggering of the plane indicated its collision with mine. I contacted the pilot through the control tower at once, "Whose plane is this?" The answer came, "Pakistan Prime Minister's who is himself boarding it and going to visit America." I said,  "Why have you loaded so heavy cauldrons on it?"  He said, "The Americans had invited the Prime Minister for fourteen days. Learning the menu of his dinners, they have reduced that visit to three days. As the Americans are very miserly, he inferred that they would supply only three times dinner during those three days. He is taking the lunch for rest of three days with him. One has to offer such sacrifices to wipe out extremism and violence in the best interest of the country. The plane is unbalanced due to the weight of the cauldrons of sacrifices. Move your plane to one side if you want to avoid accident. I removed my plane to one side at once and halted it so that the plane of the cauldrons might pass easily. When my plane was in one corner I thought of consulting my spiritual-guide.
Aslim, Taslam:  I took out my mobile phone from the bag hanging with the handle of the plane and dialed the number. A sweet voice came, "What's the matter?" I said, "I am at the seat of the plane with your blessings and going to president Putin. Tell me one point only, "Why do the countries owning factories of atom bombs and treasures of land yearn for security so much? Moreover, why is Jihaad not wiped out when trillions of dollars, tonns of weapons and gunpowder and so large armies have been used against Jihaad?" Darvesh said," O Khayaal Jee, recite Durood." I complied with it. He said, "How many names have been used in Durood." I said, "Two." He said, "Which names? "I said, "Allah and Muhammad." He said, "Is anyone greater than these two?" I said, "No." He said, "Is anyone greater truthful than these two?" I said,  "No." It is Allah's decision which Hazrat Muhammadﷺ has told the whole creature that security lies only in Islam and Jihaad. No one can wipe out Allah's words. The Holy Prophetﷺ got a few letters written 1400 centuries ago and sent them to the rulers of the entire world. There was this sentence in them. اَسْلِمْ تَسْلَمْ "Embrace Islam and be secure." Now, it is decided that even dreaming of security without Islam is impossible, neither security of the heart nor of the Hereafter. Although the Pagans deprived of Islam seem secure apparently get are not in security in reality. If you peep into your hearts, you will feel sorry for them how much they are exhausted due to the injuries of disgrace, fear, greed and uncertainty. Now, they are being deprived of apparent security due to the blessings of Mujaahideen.  As for Jihaad, it is definite decree of the Holy Prophetﷺ. Certainty of his decree is brighter than the sun itself. No one can withhold Jihaad.  لایبطلہ جورجائر ولا عدل عادل
There was Jihaad in near past but very little because there was defect in persuasion and the field was also narrow. Now, there are showers of persuasion and the field is also vast. That's why; Jihaad is now advancing like tempests with the rapidity of lightning." Greeting me, Darvesh Jee hung up phone. I held up the telescope to my eyes and found the plane of cauldrons much away but there was still smell of quorma, fried rice and fried fish in the atmosphere. Smelling this, my hunger increased.  I threw the mobile phone in the bag and drew out the packet of parched grams from it, placed them in my mouth, started the aeroplane and began to travel rapidly. May Allah forgive! May Allah forgive! May Allah forgive!

Senate passes legislation against child sexual abuse

Sexual assaults will now be punishable by up to seven years in prison. Child porn will also be punishable by seven years in prison and a fine of Rs 700,000

ISLAMABAD: Legislators in the upper house of the parliament reacted strongly on Friday when a senator pointed out that a textbook titled Sociology of Pakistan described the Baloch as an uncivilised nation who would always quarrel with each other and loot the convoys.

“I don’t know what sort of message has been given to the young generation of Pakistan,” said Balochistan Senator Mir Kabeer Ahmed Muhammad Shahi of the National Party (NP).

It is written in the book that the Baloch did not allow the women to go to school or work. Shahi said that uneducated authors of the book should first study the Baloch history and then write a book. He said that insulting a nation in such a way was very dangerous and asked the house to take appropriate action against publishers Abdul Hamid Taga and Abdul Aziz Taga. He informed the house that the book was being taught to the students of intermediate part-II enrolled with different boards of secondary education in Punjab.

The senators were of the view that it was a serious issue and it should not have gone unnoticed. The issue was described as a conspiracy against Pakistan and strict action was sought against the publishers and those who approved the book for the syllabus.

Senate Chairman Mian Raza Rabbani said that changes were made in the textbooks during late General Zia-ul-Haq’s regime and there were hundreds of biased topics in the textbooks being taught to the young generation. He said there was another book, which highlighted 12 merits of dictatorship and eight merits of democracy and tried to establish that a military takeover was inevitable, otherwise the country would have collapsed. He assured the house that the matter would be brought into the notice of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.

Earlier, the Senate passed a bill, criminalising for the first time sexual assault on minors, child pornography and trafficking. The amendment to the penal code, which would come into effect after its ratification by the president, raises the age of criminal responsibility from seven to 10 years. Under the revised legislation, a sexual assault will be punishable by up to seven years in prison. Previously, only rape was criminalised.

Likewise, child pornography, which was previously not mentioned in the law, will be punishable by seven years in prison and a fine of Rs 700,000. Previously, traffickers were liable to punishment only if they would traffic children abroad. The legislation would help protect the children against any kind of mental and physical abuse.

Voices in support of the missing persons echoed once again in the Senate on Friday. Senator Farhatullah Babar pointed out that the Senate sent a report on rights violations to the government a couple of months ago, but the government did not respond. Rabbani said that he would send the government a reminder to respond to the Senate report.

Babar drew the Senate’s attention to the reports that a disillusioned Islamic State defector reportedly passed a stolen computer disc containing documents identifying more than 20,000 operatives in over 50 countries to a British journalist together with a treasure of rare information about the countries they belonged to, their expertise in carrying out various militant operations and a list of people who had volunteered to act as suicide bombers to further the Islamic State cause. He called for an investigation into this treasure house of information to find out if there are any Islamic State supporters and operators in Pakistan.

Separately, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Sheikh Aftab Ahmad told the Senate on Friday that the government wanted to have two airlines to promote competition and provide better travel facilities to people. He said that Pakistan Airways had been registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan, but its main features were still being worked out.

Austria says closure of Balkan route is ‘permanent

South-eastern Europe’s “Balkan route”, the main passage for migrants to reach more affluent countries to the north, will remain closed permanently, Austria’s Interior Minister Johanna Mikl-Leitner told German newspaper “Die Welt” on Thursday.
On Wednesday, Macedonia sealed its border with Greece to illegal migrants after Slovenia, Croatia and Serbia, which are on the way to Austria, announced tight new restrictions on migrant entry.
“My position is clear: the Balkan route remains closed and that permanently,” Mikl-Leitner told the newspaper.
She said only such a “consistent signal” will deter migrants, many of them fleeing war and conflict in the Middle East and beyond, from crossing the Mediterranean from Turkey to reach European shores.
As a result of the route’s closure, thousands of migrants have built up on the Greek side of the Macedonian border and around 1,000 more are stranded in a refugee camp on the Macedonian side of the Serbian border.
“This alliance of reason has so far provided the decisive contribution to preserve stability and order for the people in Europe,” Mikl-Leitner said in reference to the Balkan countries along the route.
In late February, Austria set off what it called a “domino effect” of national restrictions by imposing daily caps on the number of migrants to limit the flow of people towards it.
Last year, over 1.5 million migrants arrived in Europe, unleashing fierce political debates across the continent over how to handle the crisis.

A high-profile pro-gun activist was shot in the back by her four-year-old son after he found her pistol lying on the back seat of her truck just 24 hours after he boasted about his shooting skills online.
Jamie Gilt, 31, who posts about firearms on her social media accounts was driving through Putnam County, Jacksonville, Florida, on Tuesday in her truck when she was wounded after the toddler picked up the weapon and shot her in the back.
It came just a day after she said the youngster would get 'jacked up' before a shooting practice on a page dedicated to her musings on Second Amendment rights.
On the profile Jamie Gilt for Gun Sense she wrote: 'Even my 4 year old gets jacked up to target shoot with the .22'.
She reportedly believes she has the right to shoot anyone who threatens her family - and plans to teach her offspring the same mentality.
According to CBS47, Gilt was on her way to pick up a horse when the shooting unfolded.

Her four-year-old son picked up a loaded .45 semi-automatic handgun from the back seat, pointed it towards his mother and pulled the trigger.
The powerful round went through the front seat and passed through Gilt's body .
Gilt flagged down a passing Sheriff's deputy and told him that she had been shot.
Deputies recovered a .45 semi-automatic handgun from the floor of the truck. They are satisfied that the round was fired from inside the vehicle.
Gilt and her son had been travelling to pick up a horse from a relative when the accident happened.
Putman County Sheriff's office spokesman Joseph Wells said a deputy noticed a truck with a horse trailer driving erratically: 'As the deputy slowed to check on the vehicle, he observed an adult female in the driver’s seat motioning to him as if she needed assistance.
'The deputy ran to the vehicle and quickly determined that the driver had been shot.
'The deputy notified the dispatcher of the situation and Putnam County Fire / Rescue was dispatched.
'The deputy provided first aid until the arrival of paramedics. The victim was transported to University of Florida Health in Gainesville and was last reported to be in stable condition.
'The only other occupant of the vehicle was the victim’s four-year-old son, who was unharmed.

Before being transported to the emergency room, the victim told deputies that her son had accidentally shot her.
'The investigation by Major Crimes Unit Detectives and the analysis of the crime scene confirmed that the victim was accidentally shot by the young boy who was sitting in the back seat of the vehicle.
'The young man was reunited with other family members and Putnam County Sheriff’s Office Victim Services Specialists continue to work with the family.
'The Florida Department of Children and Family Services are being notified and the investigation into how the child came to be in possession of the handgun is ongoing.'
According the Florida Times Union, the responding deputy noticed the boy was not strapped to the booster seat in the car when he arrived at the scene.
Wells said: 'We’re satisfied that this is not a criminal shooting.'
However Gilt may face criminal charges if the State Attorney's Office determine there was negligence on how the child obtained the firearm.

Former First Lady Nancy Reagan Mourned, Honored by Political World

The political world mourned Nancy Reagan on Sunday, with Republican presidential candidates current and former honoring the former first lady and calling her death the end of an influential era in the party.

2016 candidates
Texas Sen. Ted Cruz tweeted: “Nancy Reagan will be remembered for her deep passion for this nation and love for her husband, Ronald. The Reagan family is in our prayers.”
Donald Trump, the GOP front-runner, said on Twitter, “Nancy Reagan, the wife of a truly great President, was an amazing woman. She will be missed!”
Florida Sen. Marco Rubio tweeted: “Today our nation mourns the loss of Nancy Reagan, a true example of integrity and grace. My prayers are with the entire Reagan family.”
Ohio Gov. John Kasich called Reagan “a woman of strength and wit” in a statement mourning her death.
“President Reagan has been reunited with his wife and partner but America and the Reagan family have lost a woman of grace and strength,” Kasich said. “A woman of strength and wit, Nancy Reagan’s dedication to our country was matched only by that of her husband. Theirs was one of our nation’s great love stories and a model of shared devotion to our country. America is stronger and better for their service.”
The office of Bill Clinton released a statement on behalf of the former president and his wife, Hillary, who is currently pursuing the White House.
“Hillary and I were deeply saddened to learn of Nancy Reagan’s passing,” the statement said. “Nancy was an extraordinary woman: a gracious First Lady, proud mother, and devoted wife to President Reagan — her Ronnie. Her strength of character was legendary, particularly when tested by the attempted assassination of the President, and throughout his battle with Alzheimer’s. She leaves a remarkable legacy of good that includes her tireless advocacy for Alzheimer’s research and the Foster Grandparent Program.”
Hillary Clinton also tweeted: “Nancy’s strength of character was legendary, and her advocacy—especially for Alzheimer’s research—was tireless. Praying for her family. -H”
Bernie Sanders, Hillary Clinton’s Democratic rival, also praised the former first lady.
“No matter your party or political ideology, this is a sad day for America. Nancy Reagan was an exemplary first lady,” he said. “A devoted partner, she was her husband’s most trusted adviser and, as such, served our country well. Even after her time in the White House, she was an outspoken advocate for stem-cell research to find a cure for Alzheimer’s. Nancy Reagan had a good heart, and she will be dearly missed.”
Obamas: She ‘redefined the role’ of first lady
President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama said Sunday said Nancy Reagan had made their transition to the White House easier with her “warm and generous advice.”
“Nancy Reagan once wrote that nothing could prepare you for living in the White House. She was right, of course. But we had a head start, because we were fortunate to benefit from her proud example, and her warm and generous advice,” they said.
Reagan “redefined the role” of first lady, they said.
“Later, in her long goodbye with President Reagan, she became a voice on behalf of millions of families going through the depleting, aching reality of Alzheimer’s, and took on a new role, as advocate, on behalf of treatments that hold the potential and the promise to improve and save lives,” the Obamas said.
Other Republicans mourn
And Mitt Romney, the 2012 Republican nominee, praised Reagan on Twitter and Facebook, saying on both that “God and Ronnie have finally welcomed a choice soul home.”
“With the passing of Nancy Reagan, we say a final goodbye to the days of Ronald Reagan,” Romney wrote on Facebook. “With charm, grace, and a passion for America, this couple reminded us of the greatness and the endurance of the American experiment. Some underestimate the influence of a First Lady but from Martha and Abigail through Nancy and beyond, these women have shaped policy, strengthened resolve, and drawn on our better angels. God and Ronnie have finally welcomed a choice soul home.”
Barbara Bush, the former first lady and wife of ex-President George H.W. Bush, said in a statement that she and the 41st president send “prayers and condolences” to the family of the 40th president and first lady.
“Nancy Reagan was totally devoted to President Reagan, and we take comfort that they will be reunited once more. George and I send our prayers and condolences to her family,” Barbara Bush said.
Former President George W. Bush and Laura Bush also mourned Nancy Reagan, saying in a statement that they are “saddened” by her death.
“Mrs. Reagan was fiercely loyal to her beloved husband, and that devotion was matched only by her devotion to our country,” the 43rd president said.
“Her influence on the White House was complete and lasting. During her time as first lady and since, she worked to fight drug abuse and raise awareness about breast cancer,” he said. “When we moved into the White House, we benefitted from her work to make those historic rooms beautiful. Laura and I are grateful for the life of Nancy Reagan, and we send our condolences to the entire Reagan family.”
Reince Priebus, the chairman of the Republican National Committee, praised Reagan in a statement.
“Nancy Reagan embodied what it means to represent America as First Lady and her dignified and warm demeanor inspired America,” Priebus said.
“Mrs. Reagan will go down in history as a woman who left her own mark on the White House and our country. She was a longtime friend and supporter of many in our party, and will be sorely missed,” he said. “My thoughts and prayers are with the entire Reagan family and all those who she so deeply touched over the years.”
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Kentucky, recalled the scene in 2004, when Nancy Reagan kissed Ronald Reagan’s casket while the nation watched.
“In many ways the Reagan love story was classic Hollywood, but it was unmistakably human too. Hands intertwined, Nancy and Ron rose to the pinnacle of political power, weathered cancer and personal heartbreak, and braved the depths of Alzheimer’s cold embrace — always together. I know every American felt Nancy’s immense pain when she, kissing Ronnie’s casket, mouthed a tearful farewell to the best friend she once said she couldn’t imagine life without,” McConnell said in a statement.
Sen. Mark Kirk, R-Illinois, recalled Reagan’s “Just Say No” anti-drug campaign.
“Nancy Reagan will always be remembered for confronting drug abuse. I join the nation in mourning her death. May she rest in peace,” Kirk tweeted.
Former New York Gov. George Pataki tweeted, “Nancy Reagan always gracious and strong – without her America would never have known President Reagan. Rest in peace,

Should the New Orleans Saints Bring in Former Patriots Brandon LaFell or Scott Chandler?

David Butler II-USA TODAY Sports
Brandon Browner worked out so well. Should the Saints try their luck on one or two other former Patriots?

The  New Orleans Saints have lots of holes to fill this offseason, and will be looking to do so with both productivity and value in mind. Two of the biggest offensive needs (along with offensive line) are pass-catching options for Drew Brees outside of Brandin Cooks and Willie Snead. The New England Patriots have just cut both Wide Receiver Brandon LaFell and Tight End Scott Chandler, and either or both might be interesting options for the Saints to consider.
LaFell is a familiar face to Saints fans, having previously played for the NFC South rival Carolina Panthers from 2010 to 2013 after being selected by the Panthers in the third round of the 2010 NFL Draft. LaFell spent the last two seasons catching passes fromTom Brady where he saw an increase in targets from his time in Carolina.
Injuries hampered the start of LaFell's 2015 season, as he spent the first six weeks on the PUP list. Even still, he was able to average 46 yards per game in the remaining 11 games he played. To put this into perspective, former Saints Marques Colston (that breaks my heart to type) averaged 43 yards per game in his final season in New Orleans. To continue the Colston comparison, LaFell is only two inches shorter than Marques, but is three years younger. LaFell would present a similar presence to Colston in both size and route-running, but has had an issue with drops throughout his career. Last year, LaFell had six drops, equating to approximately 8.1% of his targets. To put that into perspective, Colston dropped 4.5% of his targets, Snead 1.0%, Benjamin Watson 4.6%, and Brandon Coleman 2.0%.
Scott Chandler had a drop rate in 2015 closer to Benjamin Watson at 4.8%. Chandler is a 7-year NFL vet, but played most of his career in the AFC with the Buffalo Bills after being drafted in the fourth round of the 2007 NFL Draft by the San Diego Chargers. Chandler's 2015 season was also plagued by injuries, and a knee injury severely limited his usage in Bill Belichick's scheme. With the knee injury continuing into affect him, Chandler failed a physical from New England which prompted his release.
Chandler only had one year in New England working with Brady, and it was overshadowed by his knee injury and the presence of other-worldly Rob Gronkowski. However, during his time in Buffalo, without the luxury of a future Hall of Fame Quarterback throwing him the ball, Chandler was a more than productive offensive weapon. Chandler is also an adept blocker on the line (unlike that former New Orleans Saints Tight End who we won't mention, but his name rhymes with Gimmy Jam), logging over 1,100 run-blocking snaps during his time in Buffalo.
So should the Saints reach out to one or both and bring them in as a member of the Black and Gold? Make sure you vote in the poll (send me presents!), but before you do, I would be remiss not to mention that LaFell has Louisiana ties, playing college ball at LSU (SEC, SEC, SEC). If the Saints do bring in either, we can all pray they turn our better than the last former New England Patriot free agent... 'sup, Browner!

Turkey says drop in migrants 'not dramatic'

IDOMENI, Greece (AP) — The Latest on the influx of refugees and other migrants into Europe (all times local): 7:10 p.m. Turkey's prime minister says there has been a drop in the numbers of migrants moving toward Europe, but acknowledges that the decline isn't a "dramatic" one.

18 migrants drown off Turkey, few allowed into Macedonia

IDOMENI, Greece (AP) — At least 18 people drowned off the Turkish coast while trying to reach Greece Sunday, while Macedonian authorities imposed further restrictions on refugees trying to cross the Greek border.
A migrant family rests near the border that separates the Greek side from the Macedonian one to be allowed to cross into Macedonia, at the northern Greek border station of Idomeni, Sunday, March 6, 2016. A regional governor called on the Greek government Saturday to declare a state of emergency for the area surrounding the Idomeni border crossing where thousands of migrants are stranded due to border restrictions along the route toward western Europe.

The Turkish coast guard launched a search-and-rescue mission for other migrants believed to be missing from the accident, the state-run Anadolu Agency reported. The coast guard rescued 15 other migrants off the Aegean Sea resort of Didim, it added.
The dead included three children, according to private Dogan news agency. Meanwhile, Greek police officials said Macedonian authorities are only allowing those from cities they consider to be at war to cross the Idomeni border crossing from Greece. That means people from cities such as Aleppo in Syria, for example, can enter, but those from the Syrian capital of Damascus or the Iraqi capital of Baghdad are being stopped.
The two officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren't authorized to speak on the record. The developments come a day ahead of a summit between the European Union and Turkey to discuss the crisis.
Nearly all refugees and other migrants who enter the EU have been doing so by taking small inflatable dinghies from the Turkish coast to the nearby Greek islands. With thousands of kilometers of coastline, Greece says it cannot staunch the flow unless Turkey stops the boats from leaving its shores.
Athens has also criticized Europe for not sticking to agreements to take in refugees in a relocation scheme that never really got off the ground. "While Idomeni is closed for refugees and the flows from the islands, from the Turkish shores to the islands, remain, it must be perfectly clear that the immediate start of a reliable process of relocation of refugees from our country to other countries of the European Union is a matter of complete urgency," Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said Sunday during a speech to his party.
"And this is exactly what we will seek in the summit on Monday. Not just the wording that this is urgent, but that it will begin immediately and with a large number," Tsipras said. While thousands arrive in Greece's main port of Piraeus from the islands, about 13,000-14,000 people remain stranded in Idomeni, with more arriving each day. The refugee camp has overflowed, with thousands pitching tents among the railway tracks and in adjacent fields.
The rate at which refugees are being allowed to cross had already been reduced to a trickle, with sometimes only a few dozen, or even nobody, being allowed to cross. Greek police said 240 people crossed between 6 a.m. Saturday and the same time Sunday morning.
The camp is beginning to take on a form of semi-permanence, with people realizing they will be spending at the very least several days in the fields. As morning broke, women swept the earth outside their tents with makeshift brooms made of twigs and leaves. Men stomped on branches pulled off trees nearby to use as firewood for small campfires to boil tea and cook.
Throughout Sunday morning, dozens of local Greeks arrived in cars packed with clothes and food donations to distribute to the refugees. Many were mobbed as they arrived at the first tents, with men, women and children scrambling to receive whatever handouts they could.
The sheer numbers have overwhelmed Greek authorities. Massive queues of hundreds of people form from early in the morning, with people waiting for hours for a lunch-time sandwich. While Greek officials have tried to discourage more people from arriving, and no longer allow buses to drive to the Idomeni border, hundreds continue to arrive each day, walking more than 15 kilometers (10 miles) from a nearby gas station where the United Nations refugee agency has set up large tents.
"We have been here five days, or six. Who remembers the days anymore," said Narjes al Shalaby, 27, from Damascus in Syria, travelling with her mother and two daughters, 5-year-old Maria and 10-year-old Bara'a. Her husband and third daughter are already in Germany.
"All we do here is sleep, wake up, sleep. We get hungry, we wait in the queue for two hours for a sandwich, we come back, we sleep some more," said Narjes, who worries about her daughters. "She's grown up sooner that she should have," she says of Maria, who is sleeping in the back of the family's small tent. "She's aged."

Philadelphia Flyers RUMORS: Team 'Not Adding' Players Before The Deadline

Shayne Gostisbehere #53 of the Philadelphia Flyers celebrates after scoring the game-winning goal in overtime against the Nashville Predators at Wells Fargo Center on November 27, 2015 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Philadelphia Flyers won, 3-2, in overtime.
General manager Ron Hextall has a vision for the Philadelphia Flyers, and is looking to its future instead of trading for short-term gain.

Coming off an overtime victory to the Toronto Maple Leafs that saw the Philadelphia Flyers briefly clamber to just three points out of playoff position, new questions have arisen about where general manager Rom Hextall wants to lead his team for the rest of the season.

Judging by the standings, the team still has a decent chance of making it in, with sportsclubstats.com giving them 28.1 percent as of Monday night. Despite this, it seems Hextall is is going to go into sell mode, but still try to rely on his stars to squeak into the playoffs. They will have center Sean Couturier returning soon after missing nine games, along with the team captain Claude Giroux possibly returning soon from an upper-body injury. Is this enough to lead them to a playoff berth? Ron Hextall seems resigned to the belief that even his team does not have the necessary pieces yet to make a respectable playoff push and is focusing on the future.
"We're not adding," Hextall said. "We feel comfortable with our team. We feel comfortable with our depth. We're not gonna add. I've said that all along. I guess if something came along that helped us now and in the future, but we're not looking to add a player that's a rental. That is not gonna happen. If we can add something that made sense for this year and years to come, we'd look at that, but we're not gonna add a rental. We're not gonna mortgage a part of our future to try to make a push to make the playoffs," according to the Courier Post's Dave Isaac.
The Flyers possess numerous pending free agents which could be grabbed up by a playoff bound team. Defenseman Evgeny Medvedev and forwards Sam Gagner, Michael Raffi and Ryan White are all pending unrestricted free agents. Nick Cousins, Brayden Schenn and Jordan Weal, along with defensemen Radko Gudas and Brandon Manning are all pending restricted free agents.
Schenn is most certainly going to be re-signed, according to Isaac.
"I told you guys the other day, I have ideas in my mind, but nothing that I know I'm going to do or not do," Hextall said, wrote Isaac. "Things are all still up in the air. I still have a vision for the future but we also have to be cognizant of knowing where we are today."
The Flyers are sitting in seventh place in the Metropolitan Division.

Obama sends Congress a plan to close Guantánamo Bay

In what may be his final push to close Guantánamo Bay before leaving office, President Obama on Tuesday sent Congress a blueprint for emptying the notorious prison of detainees and resettling scores of them in an unspecified facility on U.S. soil. The plan was widely seen as dead on arrival at the Capitol, where Obama’s on-again, off-again, seven-year campaign to shutter the jail has repeatedly met with Republican-dominated but bipartisan opposition.

“I don’t want to pass this problem on to the next president, whoever it is,” Obama told reporters in the Roosevelt Room of the White House. “With this plan, we have the opportunity, finally, to eliminate a terrorist propaganda tool, strengthen relationships with allies and partners, enhance our national security and most importantly uphold the values that bind us as Americans.”
Lawmakers were expected to reject Obama’s proposal, raising the possibility that Obama might resort to executive action that could spark a major election-year clash. Congress has repeatedly passed – and the president signed – legislation forbidding the transfer of Guantánamo Bay detainees to U.S. soil.
The new blueprint reflects months of work by the Obama administration to identify likely destinations for the inmates at the base, which is near Cuba’s southeastern tip.
Officials looked at 13 potential facilities, including state and federal prisons as well as military bases, but the plan does not identify a specific alternative.
“We’re going to keep making the case to Congress that we can do this in a responsible and secure way,” Obama said.
But Republican Representative Mac Thornberry, who chairs the House Armed Services Committee, gave the proposal a chilly welcome.
“What the president submitted today is more press release than a plan,” he said in a statement. “I have pledged to give the president’s plan a fair hearing, but he makes it impossible to do so when he withholds critical details.”

The facility at Guantánamo Bay currently houses 91 detainees, of whom 35 have been cleared for transfer to other countries and may leave “in the next several months,” a senior U.S. official told reporters on a conference call organized by the White House. Another 10 are in the process of being tried by military commissions. The remaining 46 include two dozen whom the government has decided it cannot prosecute but who are thought to be too dangerous to release. The prison population reached its peak in 2003 at about 680 detainees.
On the conference call, U.S. officials told reporters that the plan calls for moving 30-60 prisoners to sites in the United States, where they would continue to be guarded by military personnel. There would be a one-time cost to upgrade the new facility and move the detainees, roughly $290 million to $475 million, the officials said. But the new arrangement would cost $65 million to $85 million less annually.
U.S. officials said on the call that the prisoners would be held under the 2001 Authorization for Use of Military Force that underpins the entire war on terrorism, meaning that they would not acquire new legal rights to challenge their detention if moved to U.S. soil.

Trump wins big in SC primary as Bush bows out; Clinton edges Sanders in Nev.

The outcome of Saturday’s contests helps both 2016 “front-runners” regain their footing after going one-for-one in the leadoff contests. But there are potential hurdles ahead.
The big question now looming over the GOP race is: With Jeb Bush suspending his campaign on the heels of a distant finish Saturday, where will his supporters go?
At his victory rally, Trump challenged pundits who say such votes will gravitate to his rivals. The billionaire businessman sounded a booming note of confidence as he previewed the race ahead.
“Let’s put this thing away,” Trump told cheering supporters.
Reflecting on the rough-and-tumble primary, which gave him a 10-point margin of victory, Trump also said, “When you win, it’s beautiful. “
Clinton heads into the next round in a more fragile – albeit improved – position.
Clinton has watched her lead in national polls essentially evaporate after losing big in New Hampshire. Her showing in Nevada marks a crucial victory, and she enjoys a significant advantage heading into next weekend’s South Carolina primary.
“I am so, so thrilled and so grateful to all of my supporters,” Clinton said at her Las Vegas victory rally.
But her 5-point margin of victory may not be enough, at this stage, to significantly blunt Sanders’ momentum. The Vermont senator maintained he has an “excellent chance” to score some big wins in the upcoming Super Tuesday contests.
The Palmetto State, meanwhile, delivered a huge victory Saturday night on the Republican side to Trump -- while Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz were locked in a tight race for second.
Cruz nevertheless gave a fiery speech to supporters, as the senator touted his campaign’s ability to defy “expectations” and maintained that he’s the best candidate to go up against Clinton or Sanders “or whatever other socialist they nominate” on the Democratic side.
“Indeed, the screaming you hear now from across the Potomac is the Washington cartel in full terror that the conservative grassroots are rising up,” Cruz said, while suggesting he’s the only candidate who can beat Trump.
Rubio, for his part, declared: “After tonight, this has become a three-person race, and we will win the nomination.”
Rubio was in need of a recovery after stumbling in New Hampshire following a rough debate performance earlier this month. He had vowed to bounce back, and was buoyed in South Carolina by support from the state's popular governor, Nikki Haley, and other state leaders.
With Bush now out of the race, Ohio Gov. John Kasich is the only governor left standing on the GOP side. It remains unclear where his supporters will go. The only other candidate left is retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson, who vowed to press on.
The GOP race heads next to Nevada and after that to Super Tuesday, representing a delegate gold mine. Even South Carolina, with 50 delegates, is the most valuable GOP primary to date. As the winner, Trump would get the lion's share.
South Carolina, historically, also is a prized contest for Republican candidates as it has a knack for picking the eventual nominee – the primary winner has gone on to claim the nomination in every race since 1980, except for 2012 when Newt Gingrich won.
The race tightened in the final days, but not enough to shake Trump's long-time advantage there. Fox News exit polls indicate significant numbers of late-deciding voters ended up supporting Cruz and Rubio, causing both candidates to perform more strongly than pre-election polling suggested.
Clinton’s Nevada win comes just a week-and-a-half after she lost to Sanders by double-digits in New Hampshire.
"To everyone who turned out in every corner of Nevada with determination and heart: This is your win. Thank you," Clinton tweeted after the race was called.
