The building that hosts the 5-star hotel is 302 meters tall and is located not far from the New Year's Eve fireworks display.Social media users have reported panic as people run away from the area around the building. The fire engulfed the hotel from the outside and has not spread inside, according to Dubai’s media office. It was not immediately clear what caused the fire, which covered at least 20 stories of the building near the Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest skyscraper, AP reports.    Burning debris rained down from the building as firetrucks raced to the scene."There are no injuries, thank God ... of course, it will not affect the celebration," Major General Rashed al-Matrushi, general director of the Dubai Civil Defence, told the Al Arabiya TV channel.
The hotel and residential compound has nearly 200 rooms and over 600 apartments.
Local media say that The Address has been evacuated, and people are being moved out of the Dubai Mall located nearby.
Currently, there are at least four firefighting brigades at the site to deal with the blaze and ensure the safety of the public, according to the Twitter account of the Dubai government’s media office.

President Obama Makes His Childhood Dream Come True with Jerry Seinfeld on Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee

President Obama Appears on Jerry Seinfeld's Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee

Jerry Seinfeld shared a cup of Joe with the one and only President Obama , and there was no talk of politics!
The Seinfeld star kicked off season 7 of his hit web series Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee on Wednesday. And although the Commander in Chief isn't a professional comedian, he proved he's got a great sense of humor. Seinfeld, 61, picked up his "are-you-kidding-me-super-special-guest" at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in a classic 1963 Corvette Stingray Split Window Coupe, even going through the bushes to knock on Obama's Oval Office window.

While the host is used to visiting beloved diners and coffee shops with his guests, he was unable to pull some strings with POTUS. The pair tried not once, but twice to leave the White House premises, only to get denied by Secret Service agents each time. Seinfeld settled for second best: Obama's custom-built Cadillac.

While chatting in his bullet-proof car, the president revealed the one thing he wishes he could do. "I would love to just be taking a walk and then I run into you. You're sitting on a bench. And suddenly I say, 'Hey Jerry, how ya doin?,'" Obama admitted adding, "That moment when you lost your anonymity. And anonymity is not something you think about as being valuable."

On to the chit chat over hot cups of coffee. Obama revealed the scariest part of living at the White House, even agreeing with Seinfeld that it was a bit like Night at the Museum. "So you're looking around and thinking, what the hell is this?" the president confessed.
The duo talked about some of the craziest politicians the Leader of the Free World has met during his tenure, Larry David's sunscreen obsession, and the president's love for nachos. Obama also compares politics to the sport of football before promoting Obamacare.

At the end of it all, the president was able to make his childhood dream come true. Obama got in the driver's seat to take the Stingray around for a spin in the driveway of the White House. And may we say POTUS is one cool driver.

"I know how to drive man. C'mon," he said.

Making the world’s energy go further

Turkey demands access to Gaza in agreement

Israel and Turkey are on the brink of reconciliation, but the latter is now demanding permission to provide aid to the Gaza Strip and break its 'blockade

The senior Turkish official, who spoke with the Hurriyet newspaper, said Turkey wants access so that it can provide any aid necessary to the Palestinians living there. "Turkey is committed to reject any limitations on Turkish aid to Gaza," said the source.

The official further said that Hamas looks kindly upon talks between Israel and Turkey, despite the Israeli condition of exiling senior member Saleh al-Arouri from Ankara. That said, the official also claimed that news of al-Arouri's forced departure was incorrect information leaked to test public opinion. It was reported earlier this week that al-Arouri had departed Turkey months ago.

The source added that Hamas is waiting impatiently for Turkish aid. According to him, the visit to Turkey by Hamas political leader Khaled Mashal was unrelated to the talks with Israel, but certainly helped show the world that Hamas is part of the solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The official told Hurriyet that the breakdown in Israeli-Turkish relations could have been solved in 2013 after Israel apologized for the Marmara incident, but two elements caused Israel to balk. The first was the violent demonstrations against the Turkish government in 2013 and investigations of senior government officials. The official speculated that Israel believed Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's ruling AKP party's collapse was imminent.

A second issue, said the official, was the revolution in Egypt that led to the rise of current President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. The source claimed Israel saw al-Sisi as a stronger and more important ally and preferred to focus on relations with Egypt.

The reelection of the AKP in November allegedly caused Israel to change its mind and renew the push for reconciliation with Turkey.

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)-- The Israeli occupation authorities (IOA) banned a 19-year-old Palestinian girl from the holy al-Aqsa Mosque for 15 days.

Boxing Day sales on high streets across the UK

Shoppers in Edinburgh queue
Millions of shoppers have hit the Boxing Day sales on high streets across the UK, seeking out the best bargains.
Steve Richardson, UK regional director at analysts FootFall, said: "With Boxing Day falling on a Saturday, this means for most an extended Christmas break with the extra bank holiday on Monday."
General secretary of the shop workers' union Usdaw, John Hannett, urged shoppers to respect store staff "every day, but particularly during the Boxing Day sales when bargain hunting can turn into a frenzy".
He said: "We would prefer retailers to close for at least two days at Christmas, which would allow shop workers a proper break and time to spend with their family.
"However more and more shops are now opening for special sales promotions on Boxing Day, so we urge retailers to only staff those stores with employees who have volunteered to come in."
Retail ombudsman Dean Dunham said bargain hunters were better protected because of the new Consumer Rights Act, but he expected the most common complaint to come from consumers refused refunds or replacements because the packaging had been opened.
The Consumer Rights Act gives shoppers 30 days to return a faulty item and receive a full refund.

The Most Liked Photos on Instagram 2015

The Most Liked Photos on Instagram 1
You’ve probably heard about the 5th birthday of Instagram recently (6th of October to be exact). Due to the date, one of the most popular social media apps shared the list of the most liked Instagram photos ever. Some of them are really ancient (like Ellen Degeneres’ Oscar selfie) but are still loved and remembered by Instagram fans. We want to keep you up to date and show only the recent photos that gained popularity in 2015. You’ll definitely see some familiar faces and will find out who is the winner in the celebrity-selfie race.

Taylor Swift ‘Cat Selfie’
The Most Liked Photos on Instagram 2
Taylor Swift has something to celebrate – her Instagram account hit the score of 50 million followers. Is it due to the 25-year-old singer’s talent? Or is it due to the lovely pets she is taking pictures with? One way or another Taylor swift’s selfie got 2 million likes the day after she posted it on Instagram. We have to admit she looks really cute; showcasing a very homie atmosphere with her cat Meredith, wearing a grey hoodie and making a ‘happy-surprised’ kind of face. That image of a neighborhood girl obviously brings her luck.
Kendall Jenner ‘Heart Hair Selfie’
The Most Liked Photos on Instagram 3

The 19-year-old model can boast of the title “owner of the most-liked-ever picture in the history of Instagram”. Her photo got 2.6m likes in just one month beating the wedding picture of Kim and Kanye. What is really so special about the picture? The elegant dress, calm facial features and original pattern of hair doesn’t even let us think about a pic as a selfie – but it actually is one, against all the Instagram rules. Maybe that is why the photograph is so popular. Or maybe that is just a natural talent of the Kardashian-Jenner family to get more and more popularity on Instagram. No matter what, the picture has already started a trend:

Selena Gomez ‘European Tour Selfie’

We don’t see much of Europe here, but we definitely see much of Selena and her gorgeous hair. It goes without saying that Selena is one of the most popular celebs on Instagram with 45.9 million followers. But this pic definitely rocks with 1.9 million likes. Hopefully, her tour will be as successful as her Instagram account. Go Selena

Tashfeen Malik messaged Facebook friends about her support for jihad

San Bernardino shooter Tashfeen Malik sent at least two private messages on Facebook to a small group of Pakistani friends in 2012 and 2014, pledging her support for Islamic jihad and saying she hoped to join the fight one day, two top federal law enforcement officials said Monday.
The new details indicate U.S. law enforcement and intelligence agencies missed warnings on social media that Malik was a potential threat before she entered the United States on a K-1 fiancee visa in July 2014.
The two Facebook messages were recovered by FBI agents investigating whether Malik and her husband, Syed Rizwan Farook, received any direct encouragement, financial support or specific instructions from foreign terrorist organizations before they carried out the Dec. 2 attacks.
One of the officials characterized the messages as “her private communications … to a small group of her friends.”

One Family’s Journey: Infertility, Adoption, and Islam

Nazima and Riyad Khan are the proud parents of three children they adopted through the Children's Aid Society of Toronto.

Nazima Khan, 34, and Riyad Khan, 35, married young in the hopes of starting a family early. Born and raised in Toronto to South Asian parents, Nazima works as a registered nurse in a labour and delivery ward and Riyad works as a teacher. They are the proud parents of three young children. There is very little that distinguishes them from your average Muslim Canadian professional family. Except that they adopted their children from the Children’s Aid Society (CAS).

The Khans recently shared their story at a seminar on Islam and Adoption organized by Amal Fertility, a support group for Muslims struggling with infertility based in Toronto, in the hopes of breaking the taboo around open discussion of infertility in the community and encouraging more Muslim families to consider adopting as there are many Muslim children currently looking for homes in Canada.
Why have you chosen to speak so openly about infertility and adoption in the Muslim community?
Nazima Khan: Our infertility was a real private part of our life. But we are trying to change that now because infertility affects many, many couples and it is not something to be ashamed about. A lot of people are going through it so let’s reach out and let’s support each other and discover all the resources and support networks out there. We got married young, at 21, and we both knew that we wanted kids at a young age. Unfortunately, things didn’t work out that way. We struggled with infertility pretty much a year after our marriage. I have endometriosis. So we were made aware quite early that it would be very difficult for us to conceive naturally. We did try reproductive assistance but unfortunately those attempts failed.
Why did you consider adopting?
Riyad Khan: Personally, for me, adoption wasn’t something I was aware of growing up. I didn’t have any family members who were adopted. It took a while for me to come around to the idea of adoption because I was never exposed to it. Once we made the decision to explore adoption we were both fully on board and we started the process at that time.
Nazima Khan: We decided to adopt seven years into our marriage because we both wanted a family so we knew we would have to find a different method of achieving our dream. Because adoption was completely new to us we had to do a lot of research. We looked into international adoption, private adoption, and local adoption....For More details Read>>>>>>>

Helping Homeless People in Our Community: The Keep Them Warm Project

The Keep Them Warm - Holiday Initiative was started by Jenan Dayfallah, a student at Carleton University. Her many encounters with people concerned about homelessness in our community inspired her to take to social media and create the project. Asking for anyone who wanted to make a difference to join her, the response was outstanding and a group of 15 came together to form Keep Them Warm.

When asked why she decided to take on the project, Dayfallah responded that, “In light of recent events, some of us have heard the backlash against Syrian refugees coming into Canada, and people saying “We need to take care of our own before we let people in”. However, usually many of these people who say this have yet to put those words into action. Our group decided to take that matter into our own hands”.
In learning about the many organizations and means available to tackle the issue, the group learned that anyone can be homeless, irrespective of their background, and that the views of homeless people being criminals are false. “Many of [those in] shelters or even [on] the street are families or individuals who were just unable to find adequate help to live a warm and safe life,” she explained.
The group expects to learn more about how to support the homeless and prevent homelessness in Ottawa after the holiday season. For Dayfallah, ”Focusing on this project and ensuring its success is going to be even more of a form of motivation for us to continue to learn about the needs of our community and also do this next year as well. Winter will always come, the cold will be here next year, and it is our job as better off community members to look after our brothers and sisters and keep them warm. We would like to let people in need know that they are not alone.  People of all races, cultures and faiths should not let our differences divide us, however, let them be the things that unite us as one and help us come together for a great cause. We wish everyone many blessings this season, and a winter of warmth and love."
The Keep Them Warm team is asking for donations from the public to purchase necessities to help homeless people through the harsh winter of Ottawa. The team hopes to raise at least $1000 to help 100-150 homeless members of our community this season by providing them with gift bags filled with items such as winter tuques, mittens, scarves, feminine hygiene products and basic first aid kits. The donations can be monetary or winter clothing.

Chapel Hill Shooting Vigil Promotes Reflection on Islamophobia on Campus

Tabitha Mirza speaking at the University of Ottawa Vigil for the victims of the Chapel Hill Shooting.
Students gathered at the University of Ottawa on February 13th to pay tribute to the three victims of the Chapel Hill Shooting. Those present were invited to express their thoughts and feelings in relation to the tragedy. This led to reflections of the impact of Islamophobia on the lives of Muslims in Canada, particularly Muslim students.

Jawdat Saleh, a University of Ottawa Criminology student who co-organized the event, explained “Many students expressed feelings of fear saying things such as ‘that could have been any of us’, ‘Islamophobia is real and it exists even here on our campus’ and a girl shared a story of an encounter that she had at her CEGEP in Gatineau where she was subject to hate by another student due to her religion. Many students also spoke about the rise of hatred against Muslims all over the world.”

Tabitha Mirza, a University of Ottawa International Development student, was one of the students who spoke out about the reality of Islamophobia in Canada. “There was much talk about how it 'doesn't happen in Canada as much' but that is not true,” Mirza said, “Although, perhaps less Muslims are killed in hate crimes, the anti-Muslim sentiment is still the same and still prevalent in popular culture.”
Mirza shared with Muslim Link some Islamophobic postings to the University of Ottawa Graduating Class of 2018 Facebook Group. “The conversation that happened in the group after the War Memorial shooting should not have happened in that space, but perhaps it was just a reflection of other actual campus sentiments,” she explained, “I had made a post in the group responding to the micro and macro aggressions of quite a few people. The post has since been deleted since I was being threatened, told to go back to my country, and called a terrorist, but the comments were just generally quite distasteful and ignorant.”
The event was covered by both CBC and Radio Canada. University of Ottawa Professor Nadia Abu Zahra was invited as a guest speaker at the gathering.  According to Saleh she “stressed the importance of denouncing hate speech and hate crimes towards ALL RACES, RELIGIONS, [and] ETHNICITIES. She urged everyone to join the event that was taking place right after this vigil on the other end of campus in solidarity with the Aboriginal community to stand against violence to their women.”
Saleh agreed with the need to attend the other event, but also felt there was a need to focus on Islamophobia. “We are condemning hate crimes in general. Whether it's against a Jew, Muslim, Homosexual, etc. ,” he explained, “The reason why the "Muslim" idea was pushed so much was because it felt to many members of the Muslim community as if a crime that was done against Muslims was not worth the same denunciation as any other hate crime.”
Saleh feels that it is important to raise awareness about Islamophobia in Canada and particularly on campuses where some Canadians are interacting with Muslims for the first time. “I think everything--from a Facebook Post to a vigil--is a good way of raising awareness about Islamophobia on campus,” he explained, “It all makes a difference. However, we stress the importance of raising awareness is a loving and peaceful manner. Many people are ignorant, but I can only blame them so much. After all, their response is normal considering all the garbage they are fed daily through the news and movies like American Sniper. So many of these students come from tiny towns where they have never seen any kind of minority. The only thing they can refer to in order to build an opinion on Muslims is what they read in the papers.”
The commitment to community service of the three murdered students has been highlighted by mainstream media. It lead to Deah’s Crowdfunding Campaign for dental assistance for Syrian refugees in Turkey raising almost $500,000 when Deah had originally requested only $20,000. But Mirza felt concern about the focus on the victims’ achievements. At the event, Mirza stated “The fact that the family of Deah, Yusor, and Razan constantly have to portray them as upstanding citizens in order for their murders to be viewed as 'wrong' is disgusting. If they weren't dedicated to service and community, how much harder would it be for the public to be able to 'love' and mourn them? If they were problematic in any way, even an unpaid parking ticket several months prior, how would the media tarnish their reputations in order to protect their murderer?”
Saleh was also inspired by the victims’ community service, but added that “So many Muslim students that I know have identical resumes to the ones of the victims. Role models, straight-A students that spend countless hours volunteering and giving back to their communities. The victims were great individuals who were very loved by their community, and after the tragedy, they were used as a display of how American or Canadian Muslims contribute to their communities. It's beautiful that we're able to take the accomplishments of these individuals and say HEY, while you're so busy criticizing Muslims all the time, you're missing out on the gems of your communities like Deah Rezan and Yusor.”
